Connecting with everyone
No, Luit and I aren’t matchmakers. The only thing we match is the right ingredients in order to create a delicious & colourful dish. The concept of the DinnerParties is that everyone who joins us prepares his or her’s favoroute meal so that we all can try new recipes in the company of lovely people. Off course there is a reason why our guests call us matchmakers. One of the main things we enjoy apart of the food is bringing people together and create an atmosphere in which everyone feels comfortable and start talking/ connecting with each other.
At the first DinnerParty Arnold, my partner, and I gave a spontaneous salsa workshop. Yes, after having eaten a good meal we got everyone dancing and mingling. That’s was fun! It was so much fun that we decided to organise these DinnerParties more often. During our second DinnerParty we had something else in mind. Because of lack of time we took a few minutes together before dinner to prepare the game.
A speech from a dear friend
Before starting the meal my sister called out to Pieter to give a speech since he was sitting at the head of the table. This was such a hilarious moment, because why the hell should he give a speech? But he was so gentlemenlike to stand up and take a moment to thank us for organising the DinnerParty!! I added to this speech that we would do this little game after dinner. Some thought we would do the game ‘truth or dare’ and this was absolutely not what they wanted to do. Luckily we did something everyone enjoyed doing.
The Food
There was so much healthy food on the table. We could see that everyone did their best. The plates we enjoyed were: mushroom quiche, courgette quiche, tomato and egg quiche, sate, prawn avocado salad, green salad, tortilla’s with vegetables, stir fried chicken with broccoli, vegetarian pastries, paella with chicken and prawns, Japanese style paprika filled with a mixture of carrots, mushrooms, radish, sprinkled with white sesame.
The little social game
The game consisted of 16 cards with different assignments. These cards were divided in two vases: one vase representing the ’save’ cards and the other vase representing the ‘adventurous’ cards. Before drawing a card a person asks another person with whom he hasn’t spoken much to play the game with him. Together they decide from which vase they would like to draw a card. Examples of the save cards are: tell each other about a booktip, travel tip, favorite breakfast, blooper, restaurant tip etc. Examples of the adventurous cards are: tell each other about a love story, mayor life change, to portray your favorite sport activity or a household chore. Can you imagine, that walking around in this diverse scenery of people interacting with each other in a playful and sometimes serious way is just amazing? It was amazing and funny to see that we succeeded with our little game. Luit and I interchanged roles so that we could be a part of the talks as well.
Next DinnerParty & pictures
We haven’t planned our next Share Food DinnerParty yet, but we will soon. The idea is that we think of something else to do at every following DinnerParty and suprise our friends and guests with social games or workshops. A selection of the pictures of the Valentine’s DinnerParty will be online soon.
See you guys @ our next DinnerParty!
